There’s an old saying “There are two kinds of people – the Irish and those who wish they were.

At our home this time of year, we celebrate David’s Irish heritage – there’s nothing like Irish music to warm your heart. My heritage is more “reserved” perhaps. I’m Swedish and will be going to Stockholm for a lovely family visit in June – but I’ll tell you about that another day.

We can’t underestimate the importance of preserving our heritage, remembering family traditions and celebrating them. And it’s so easy to do just that in this age of digital wonders. Your smart phone can capture a conversation on video that could become incredibly special to you. Ask your mom or dad or another family member a few questions to get started and you’ll tap into rich memories of childhood – places, people, tough times and happy ones.

All of us love listening to stories and no culture is better known for gifts of blarney or nuggets of truth wrapped in pithy sayings. Here are some of my favorites:
